Introduction
The principal aims of Module 1 were separated into two aspects. Learning basic computer skills, including electronic communication, and acquiring practical academic learning skills.
Computer Skills.
Module 1 provided a gentle start to the course. I encountered no real problems. What I did find extremely useful was the advice and guidance on using an application's Help facility to get around any difficulties that I did come across. Used in conjunction with Web based tutorials, I have found this and a trial and error approach, as advised during Module 1, to be the most effective learning medium for me. Using this method I was able to produce graphics such as those below for the graphics package activity:

Communication Skills
Using the Internet and e-mail was a skill I possessed prior to T171, but Conferencing and Netiquette introduced to me features of on-line use that were completely new. In particular the section on the absence of body language and possible misinterpretation was of particular interest, revealing a possibility that I had not previously thought about.
Academic Skills
I found the section on study skills very important. It taught me the skills of reading and taking notes. The section was reinforced with a group collaborative exercise involving clear thinking and online conferencing.
Conclusion
Module I provided a good introduction into the basics of computer use and online group working.
