Crinkle Crags

Of all the walks I have done, this is one of my favourites. Whether it's tagged on to the Pike of Blisco or approached from Langdale, it's just as special. It has a good combination of scrambling and rough walking. A really notable feature is the famous Bad Step. It's not as difficult as it looks, but you have to be confident in yourself.

Crinkle Crags parading in a line ahead. Bow Fell can just be seen poking its head between the furthest pair. Bow Fell from Crinkle Crags. The Scafell range is on the left, wrapped in clouds. The Bad Step being assailed by a bunch of former servicemen. Harold, 81, stands at the back ready to go.

In the image on the right you may be able to make out the chap at the rear with the green pack. Harold, 81 years young, an inspiration to all who think they can't get on to the fells because of their age. He may have needed help on the Bad Step, but if I can manage it with help when I reach the octagenerian state, I'll be well pleased. As a further note on the Bad Step, on the same day that Harold climbed it, a young man in his twenties refused to do it. He looked the part with the designer gear, but......

I realy wanted to get up on Bow Fell this day. But the weather turned against me. The better part of valour dictated that it was time to return when I lost sight of Bow Fell and the Crinkles began to merge into the cloud. You need to take care coming back down, paricularly in poor visibility. I came close to the edge on this day. Get that adrenalin flowing!

The images here really don't do the place justice.
